Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Students from Year 9 onwards can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE), an internationally recognised programme for young people that builds their life skills, helps them get physically active, giver service and experience adventure!

There are three progressive levels which lead to a bronze, silver or gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Any young person can do their DofE regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an award is not a competition or about being first. it is all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

What do the awards involve?

DofE awards see students helping their community or local environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for the gold award, working with a team on a residential activity.

Through the DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive which enhances CVs, university and job applications.

By doing the award, students can make a difference to other people’s lives and their local community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories that will last a lifetime.
