Recruiting perfect prefects

We are looking for exemplary students in Years 9 and 10 who would like to become prefects.

Prefects are students who are a tremendous help to the school and play a particularly important role in mentoring younger students, feeding back pupil's opinions, organising year group activities and supporting directors of learning to improve student outcomes.

The position of a prefect forms a valuable part of a student's personal development, opening their mind to new levels of responsibility and participation in a very positive way. 

Prefect roles, responsibilities and duties  

It is the responsibility of the prefect to:

  • Represent and serve the whole school community. 

  • Represent the views of students and the wider school community appropriately and through the correct channels and structures, liaising with directors of learning, the senior management team and head of school.  

  • Work as part of a team to achieve shared goals.  

  • Set high standards of dress, behaviour and attitude to learning.  

  • Be a role model all pupils can aspire to be. 

Prefects must perform the following duties:  

  • Prefects are asked to tour prospective students and their parents at the request of their student support officer.

  • Prefects are expected to take an active role in the organisation year group events.  

  • Prefects will meet regularly to discuss whole school matters and issues. 

  • Prefects will meet with the head of school.  

  • Prefects are expected to contribute to celebration assemblies.

  • Prefects are expected to assist with school events such as parents’ evenings, concerts, clubs and activities. This will be at the request of the staff member responsible for each event.   

How to apply

To apply, please write a letter to Mrs Lamb explaining what skills and qualities you have that would make you a good prefect. In your letter, you must outline why you think you would be the best candidate for the job.
