A group of students recently completed a 13 mile sponsored walk along Kielder Reservoir North Shore, to prepare and raise funds for their 2020 South Africa expedition.

Assistant Headteacher, Mr Hinshaw, commented: "The students covered the distance in a very respectable time. Along the way, there were many conversations and discussions about the expedition and future fund-raising events. The students also learned about the importance of maintaining good hydration, effective nutrition and how to walk as a group to ensure everyone’s well-being."

Students raised an impressive £1,300 which will contribute to the expedition costs. During the expedition, students will participate in a wide variety of activities including a 3-day trek into the Drakensberg mountains where they will sleep in caves, mountain bike along trails and canoe down one of the major river systems. Read all about it here.

Bedlington Academy aims to offer an expedition to Year 11 and 13 students each year to enable the development of leadership, team building and personal skills as well as experiencing new cultures and will soon be releasing details of the 2021 expedition - keep your eyes peeled!
